Job Description:

Full-Time Personal Injury Litigation Paralegal w/Full Benefits

Litigation Paralegal – Law firm

Powers & Santola, LLP has an immediate opening in our Albany, NY office for a paralegal with litigation experience. The appliicant will be working on personal injury and sexual assault cases. The applicant must possess good grammar, spelling, punctuation, proofreading and writing skills and have a MINIMUM of 3 YEARS of LITIGATION EXPERIENCE (Personal Injury Specific Experience Preferred). Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.

SALARY - The salary range for this position is between $45,000 and $60,000 per year, depending upon your experience and qualifications.

ABOUT US - U.S. News & World Report® has repeatedly selected Powers & Santola as one of the “Best Law Firms in America” in four different practice areas: Medical Malpractice Law – Plaintiffs; Product Liability Litigation – Plaintiffs; Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs; and Appellate Practice. For additional information about our firm, please see our website at: www.powers-santola.com

IT’S YOUR FILE - Work independently on the same file from intake through conclusion.

PRIVATE OFFICE - Every employee (with the obvious exception of the receptionist) has a private office – not a cubicle – with a door that closes and windows! This allows everyone to shut out unwanted distractions and interruptions while they work, without losing contact with the outside world.

COMMITMENT TO COLLEGIALITY – We have maintained our commitment to providing our clients with the highest quality of representation by remaining small in size and highly selective in the cases we accept. Our firm consists of: six attorneys; five paralegals; a bookkeeper; and a receptionist. Due to the relatively small size of our firm, it is crucial that all of our staff like and respect each other. For that reason, all hiring is ultimately done with input from the entire staff, not just by the lawyers.

HIRING PROCESS - Written applications are initially “screened” by two staff members and an attorney. Applicants who pass the screening process are invited to an initial interview conducted by three paralegals, without any participation by attorneys. This allows our paralegals to ask questions designed to probe the depth and breadth of an applicant’s background and experience and to form an initial impression of whether the applicant is likely to “fit in” with our existing staff. The process also allows the applicant to question current staff members about their experiences with the firm without any lawyers being present. Applicants who successfully complete the first round of interviews are invited back for a second round of interviews in which all available staff members and attorneys participate. We will not contact your current employer until after the second round of interviews. No applicant is offered a position unless ALL of the staff and ALL of the lawyers agree that an offer should be made.

SMOKE-FREE ENVIRONMENT - The offices of Powers & Santola, LLP are a totally smoke-free environment. No smoking by any person is permitted in any part of our firm’s offices, including private offices, at any time.

BENEFITS - The law firm of Powers & Santola, LLP provides a comprehensive benefit program designed to supplement basic compensation for its employees. In addition to those benefits mandated by state or federal law (i.e. disability insurance, workers’ compensation insurance and federal and state unemployment insurance), our firm currently provides the following benefits:

HEALTH INSURANCE – Fully paid by our firm (no employee contribution), all full-time employees are entitled to participate in our firm's health insurance plan. Our firm currently pays the full premium for individual coverage for all employees not covered by another health plan.

RETIREMENT PLAN – All employees may participate in the Powers & Santola, LLP 401(k) Profit Sharing Plan.

FREE PARKING – Our Albany Office is located at 100 Great Oaks Blvd, Suite 123, Albany, NY 12203.  The Great Oaks Office Park has outdoor parking for all our employees.  Parking is free and convenient.

HOLIDAYS - The office is closed for business on eight (8) national holidays: New Year's Day, President's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

PAID LEAVE – Full-time non-attorney employees have a certain number of paid leave days.  Paid leave takes the place of vacation, sick, and personal days.  Each employee between date of hire and one year of continuous service may take up to ten (10) paid leave days per year.  The number of paid leave days increases with the number of continuous service years of an employee.

SALE OF VACATION AND LEAVE - Employees are allowed to carry all paid leave days forward from one year to the next and to accumulate those days without restriction. Employees, at their option, are permitted to “sell” unused paid leave days back to the firm, in exchange for their cash value when earned.
