The Partnership for Civil Justice Fund, a non-profit constitutional rights and civil rights legal organization that houses the Center for Protest Law & Litigation is recruiting an Operations Director. The Operations Director will be a critical member of our collegial team to ensure and continue our work as a high impact and well-run organization. The organization is in a period of growth and now is a great time to join our team and contribute directly to this stage of our evolution.  

The Operations Director will make the organization’s processes run smoothly, will work closely with the Executive Director and will carry out a range of responsibilities involving Operations, Finance, Technology, Fundraising and Human Resources. About the Organization

As leaders in bringing high impact civil rights and constitutional rights litigation for over 25 years, the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund has brought groundbreaking cases, changed laws and policies, and won millions in damages for persons whose rights have been violated. Our litigation work is integrated with outreach, education and advocacy with affected groups, communities, activists and organizations in racial, social and environmental justice movements. Our work is focused ultimately on creating meaningful social, political and legal changes and dismantling systems of repression.

Our new Center for Protest Law & Litigation works to protect and advance the rights of protestors to organize, assemble and demand justice around the country. We defend free speech rights through affirmative civil litigation, including against the mechanisms of police violence, as well as criminal defense of protestors swept up in political arrests.

Key Responsibilities

The Operations Director at our small collaborative organization will manage and prepare budget and fundraising documents and reports as well as manage grant cycles and compliance; manage incoming financials as well as track expenditures in Quickbooks; maintain and facilitate IT systems including through use of third-party technology contractors where needed; manage payroll and 1099s; manage onboarding of staff and track leave; maintain employee handbook; administer funding disbursal to cooperating attorneys; work with the Executive Director to foster a participatory and mission-driven culture and a positive, productive work environment.

Key Requirements and Qualifications

  • Management-level experience with operations in a non-profit organization or a for-profit legal organization.

  • Understanding of basic accounting; additional accounting experience or degree a plus.

  • Technology proficiency, comfort and confidence with technology platforms and tools to find the best ways to make them work for our work.

  • Experience with CRM systems for donor management; experience with Salsa Labs a plus.

  • Experience with QuickBooks.

  • Enthusiasm for the work of the organization.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, sense of humor.

  • Self-motivated with ability to create an agenda for the work. A high level of independence and initiative, ability to take responsibility to advance and complete projects as well as an ability to respond to direction.

  • A strong work ethic is essential as well as the capacity to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and to meet deadline requirements, including working occasional weekends and evenings if necessary.

  • Superior organizational skills; capable of balancing and prioritizing concurrent projects and deadlines.

  • Meticulous attention to detail.

  • Problem solver at ease in dynamic and fast-moving environment.

LOCATION

At this time, the Operations Director will be onboarded remotely and will be expected to maintain a high level of productivity virtually. The office is in Washington DC, so candidates should live in the DC area once we return to work in the office which is expected to be very soon. Vaccinations required.

SALARY

The salary is expected to be in the range of $70,000 - $95,000 and will depend on the applicant’s qualifications and experience. Benefits include fully paid, outstanding health and dental insurance, generous paid vacation, personal and sick leave, and all 11 paid federal holidays.
